Homeschooling Discounts
Several businesses offer discounts to homeschoolers; some may require a homeschool group card to "prove" you are a home educator. To receive a HERO card, send a self-addressed, stamped envelope, marked homeschooler card to HERO of Oklahoma, 12725 Breckenridge Rd, Enid, OK 73701.
Until the practice is established, you may find you know more about a vendor's policy regarding discounts for home educators than the clerk at the check-out counter. If you are refused the discount listed below, please contact HERO's Consumer Advocate with a description of the encounter and the store location.

Corporate position is fairly undefined, so your luck at receiving the discount will be based on the luck of the draw; some sales reps recognize parent educators while others do not. The discounts are not advertised and there is no set discount amount. Your best is to purchase through corporate CompUSA education sales at 1 (800) 834-7328. Local stores, such as the CompUSA at 71st and Memorial, Tulsa, refused to pass on discounts to homeschoolers. Creativity 10 percent off Discovery Channel Stores 10 percent off Family Net, Inc. dial-up service 15 percent off to home educators, Tulsa calling area only Hancock Fabrics 10 percent off Hastings based on product purchased; refused to discount at Enid Hastings Joanne's Fabric 10 percent off Joseph-Beth Bookstores unknown Kinko's 10 percent off Mardel's no homeschool discount McKee Sewing Center 20 percent off My Own Design ceramics (Stillwater) 20 percent off; some restrictions Natural Wonders 15 percent off Powell's Bookstore (online) 20 percent off Noodle KIDoodle (OKC) 10 percent off; some restrictions Sav-On Office Supplies unknown Walden Books based on purchase amount Zany Brainy 10 percent off (Tulsa)
