Email Lists

HERO offers a free low-volume announcement list featuring legislative alerts, HERO field trips and conference information, and other items of interest to Oklahoma home educators.  Activate your subscription to HERO's free low-volume announcement list by sending this blank email.

If you prefer an interactive forum, join a HERO discussion group.  Joining a HERO discussion group is an excellent way to network with many homeschoolers across the state.  Anyone with an interest in Oklahoma homeschooling and an e-mail address is welcome to join.

HERO of Oklahoma sponsors three e-mail discussion groups (also known as email lists):  two primarily for adults, and one for homeschooled children and teens in Oklahoma.  Though these lists are sponsored by HERO of Oklahoma, the opinions expressed are those of the individual contributors--not HERO of Oklahoma.

Please read the following information and bookmark our web site for future reference.   If you have any questions or problems that aren't addressed here, please write the list manager.

bulletList Rules and Etiquette
Respect is a hallmark of the HERO e-mail discussion groups and the organization as a whole.

bulletEmail Discussion Groups for Adults
The adults' lists are OKhomeschooling and OKlegislative.  Both are unmoderated, open lists, though the list rules will be enforced.

bulletEmail Discussion Groups for Kids
OK-hs-kids provides a great way for homeschooled kids in the state to find each other, make new friends, and stay in touch.

List Rules and Etiquette

bulletRespect is the hallmark of HERO, so respect for others' viewpoints in the e-mail discussion groups is expected.  The political, religious, and philosophical diversity of the discussion group keep it interesting--the respect keeps the list enjoyable.

bulletWhen you reply to a post, trim the included text to the minimum needed to give context for your reply.  Our digest list subscribers thank you!

bulletPlease don't send a message that says nothing but "Me too" or "Thanks" or "I don't know."  Send such personal replies privately rather than to the list.

bulletWe welcome relevant replies to any question, however if you wish to carry on an extended personal or controversial conversation, it is best to respond to the individual instead of the whole list.

bulletResist the temptation to insult ("flame") others on the list.  These discussions are meant for constructive exchanges.

bulletPlease change your subject heading, if necessary, so that it accurately reflects the content of your post.

bulletAll messages are considered to be the property of the author.  Please ask the author if you can reproduce, forward or otherwise distribute their postings to anyone other than OKhomeschooling or OKlegislative list subscribers.

bulletGeneral netiquette is strongly encouraged.

Email Discussion Groups for Adults

OKhomeschooling discussion topics include activities for homeschoolers around the state and nation, educational resources on the internet, help with individual homeschooling questions, homeschooling philosophy, practical issues and other wide-ranging items of interest.

OKlegislative is a more narrowly focused list.  Discussion is limited to urgent issues that specifically affect homeschoolers, such as legislation and media reports on homeschooling.  This list is for people who don't want the volume of daily messages on OKhomeschooling, but want to stay informed about urgent matters affecting the Oklahoma homeschooling community.
