Home Educators' Resource Organization (HERO) of Oklahoma sponsors this website, OklahomaHomeschooling.org. We are an inclusive statewide resource organization; not a support group. However, we act as a networking tool for support groups and homeschooling families in Oklahoma. HERO of Oklahoma provides free listings for Oklahoma homeschool support groups. Support group leaders: please help HERO keep accurate information available to homeschoolers seeking support by notifying us of changes.
Groups affiliated with HERO are autonomous, but agree not to restrict membership; all are welcome. HERO-affiliated support groups, listed below, are identified by this symbol:
Support groups not affiliated with HERO may or may not have membership restrictions. Some groups are not accepting new members or do not accept members outside their sponsoring organization (often a church).
Please note that these groups' policies do not necessarily reflect the policies
or beliefs of HERO of Oklahoma; philosophies and methods espoused by individual
groups vary widely, even among HERO affiliates.
The following listing is not a complete roster of Oklahoma groups; new groups form and others disband fairly frequently.

The Funschooling Young Individuals (FYI) is an inclusive group created for those of us in the OKC metro (and surrounding) areas that are focused on putting the fun back into learning through an unschooling lifestyle (definition found here: http://www.holtgws.com/whatisunschoolin.html).
We are families that embrace diversity without judgment and are respectful of paths that may be different from our own. It is important to us that our children know that they are loved and respected no matter what their choices, because they are individuals just like everyone else. This is not a group based in any religious or political view, rather an inclusive group for all who are comfortable with diversity in all forms.
This group acts as a support for all those new and veteran to unschooling. We facilitate 3-4 regular activities each month (some weather permitting) and invite members to plan and host activities their family is interested in…chances are, if your family is interested, someone else is too. Check our calendar for these Regularly Scheduled Monthly Activities (current as of 3/11/09): Craft Day, Park Day, Kitchen Creations, Play Day, Field Trip Day.
It is our hope that all members feel comfortable enough here to talk about most anything (knowing it will not be shared beyond this group), plan and host activities as compelled, and share wisdom as it is revealed.
Please Note Requirements: Introduction questions are required prior to membership approval (remember to check spam/junk/bulk mailbox). New members will be on moderated status for at least the first post in an effort to protect this group from spam or emails based on lack of knowledge or understanding. Once off moderated status we ask that posts be respectful, thoughtful and kind. Participation online and off is also required.
We welcome you to join us in this life-long adventure of Fun with our Young Individuals!
